Making a lightweight frame is relatively simple, but making a lightweight one with top-notch performance and riding qualities requires a strong legacy. The Verticale SLR is the best example of what Wilier have been, and of what they do best: a racing bike that has improved weight over the Wilier 0 SLR - the previous climbing model made by Wilier - by almost 10% (9.73% on the kit comprising frame, fork, handlebars, and seatpost).
When riding uphill, the most important aspect is the raw material used. High-quality composite materials are the starting point for a top-performing product. For the Verticale, three types of fibers were used from Toray, a Japanese group that is a leader in the production of carbon fibers, in particular T800, T1100 and M46JB.
The handlebars are made of monocoque carbon, the design is completely new, weighing around 310 grams. The first thing that catches the eye is the special shape with the differentiated width of the handlebars. From the front, you can see the upper grip with the shift cables, which is narrower than the lower part. This shape was designed for the specific needs of professional racers, who need the best aerodynamic solutions every season within the framework of the UCI rules. The tendency is to remain narrow, but with a wider low grip, for a more maneuverable racing bike, an important requirement for sprinting. The difference between the top and bottom is 30 mm.
Wilier have redesigned the seatpost, with two possible setbacks: 0 and -15 degrees, both with two special holes for fitting a rear light or attaching the race number.
Frame with carbon fork, handlebar/stem unit, seatpost with integrated rear light and thru axles.
